Bashkir Honey, Bashkir Gold for Beekeepers

No one doubts that honey is a high-quality dietary foodstuff. Humans have used it for thousands of years as a natural remedy from many illnesses. The wild Burzyan bees in the meadows of Bashkiria Bashkir produce this quality honey. This is a very diverse region and one that has a lot of medicinal plants. This honey is treasured by beekeepers who often refer to it as “Bashkir gold.”

My Notes

Bashkir honey is unique in many ways, but not least because it comes with the honeycomb. This honeycomb has natural antibiotic properties and is a welcome way to present the product. The Russians claim that their Bashkir honey can cure just about anything. Still, you can only get the benefits when you get the real stuff and consume it in its raw form.

It is the Burzyan wild bees that make this special honey. The “honey season” in the meadows of Bashkiria Bashkir is from July to mid-August. If you find yourself in Russia during this time, in the right area, look for a local beekeeper and get the fresh honey straight from the source. Be warned though, this is perhaps the most expensive honey in the entire world. It is in fact, the food for astronauts. At the time of writing, you could expect to pay around $220 for a single kilo of this golden food.

Summary

Bashkiria is perhaps the only remaining place on earth where people are still occupied in the ancient trade of wild-hive beekeeping. It's been going on in this region now for well over a thousand years. What's so special about this is that the honey is gathered on the trees, and not in bee-gardens, which is the modern way. This is also the only place on earth where bees collect honey without any human interference at all. The bees keep their honey in pine-tree hollows. The name of this unique honey in Russian is “Bortevoy”. It is 100 percent natural and deserves its name of true “Bashkir gold.”
